The Farm

Welcome to Nibbana Farm

Nibbana Farm is a working farm situated in the Witzenberg Valley, surrounded by a backdrop of majestic mountains. This beautiful rural area in the heart of the Winelands of the Western Cape, not far from the historic town of Tulbagh, is the perfect place for a getaway, an active holiday or a romantic country weekend.

Nibbana Farm, the Manor House and the adjoining cottages have been completely restored in the last years. Each room is tastefully decorated in its own style and equipped with everything you need. A family cottage (sleeps 6) and a studio, both with private plunge pools, have just been added to the portfolio. This is self-catering at its very best.

The two cottages near the Manor House is a one bedroom cottage (Blue Cottage) and one spacious studio (Red Cottage).  All cottages are equipped with a kitchenette and have their own bathrooms. Staying in any of the cottages with their different decorative themes is a memorable experience!

The Manor House, with its large living room and open fully equipped kitchen, has four en-suite bedrooms. The lounge opens up to the beautiful garden with its comfortable seating areas, fireplace and pool. This is a beautifully decorated home and an entertainers dream. It can house up to eight people. Welcome to Nibbana Farm!

Sculpture Collection

The lovely garden surrounding the Manor House is not just decorated with flowers and trees; it is also the home of a collection of contemporary art. The many sculptures are carefully placed in the vicinity of the house, as well as further out in fields around the estate and in the Secret Garden. Go for a stroll and try to discover them all.

The farm boasts a collection of sculptures by various artists from South Africa and Zimbabwe. The Diving Lady in the Secret Garden by South African artist Marieke Prinsloo-Rowe holds a special place in our hearts, as well as the sculptures by renowned artists Angus Taylor, Anton Smit. Don McCarthy, our very own farm manager, is also a passionate sculptor and we are proud to have some of his unique pieces on the Farm. There is also a sculpture collection by Agnes Nyanhongo, who is considered one of the most important contemporary Zimbabwean artists.

Pools & Dams

Nibbana Farm is fortunate and unique with its abundance of cold mountain water. This is a rare treat in Africa and we propose you indulge in it while you can.

Hike up to the waterfall. If you dare take a dip in the ice-cold crystal-clear water. Enjoy the many rock pools in the magnificent Secret Garden. Nothing is more perfect than a swim in one of the large farm dams after hiking the mountainous terrain.

The Stable Cottage units have inviting private plunge pools and the Manor House its own private swimming pool in the garden. If you don’t like cold water, make sure you book the Karoo Cottage, with its own hot tub – perfect for the romantic winter getaway.

Bring your own fishing rods if you want to catch a tilapia or bass in the dam. Strictly catch and release fishing.

Resident Management Couple

Nibbana Farm would not be complete without its multi-talented resident Management Couple, Don & Laura McCarthy.

The amazing Laura is ever present, ensuring you feel right at home and have a great stay. She is an abundant source of information and will always give a helping hand wherever needed.

Don, the multi-talented farm manager, not only maintains the 190 hectare property, rears and sheers the sheep and landscapes the gardens. He also creates contemporary works of art with his garden sculptures, fine carpentry and a world class flair for interior design. If you are lucky enough to catch him for a chat.
